Beach Days

Our beach is second to none, offering one of the nicest spots on Oxtongue Lake to unwind and enjoy a classic Canadian cottage experience. With spacious, sandy shores and shallow, safe waters, it’s the perfect place for families to spend a day by the lake. You’ll find a floating swim raft and a water trampoline—two favorite features that guests of all ages love. Just bring your towel, some beach toys, and soak up the sunny days on our beautiful beach.

Boating

Enjoy a day boating on Oxtongue Lake! Our cottage rental rates include access to canoes, kayaks, paddle boats, and stand-up paddleboards (SUPs). We also provide life jackets and bail buckets for your convenience. If you prefer to bring your own equipment, you’re more than welcome to do so! We have a designated area at the beach where guests can store their personal boats.

Children's Play Area

Whether on land or in the lake, The Pines offers a safe, fun environment for your children to play. Our resort features a dedicated children’s play area, complete with swings, slides, and climbing structures, allowing little ones to explore and let their imaginations run free.

Fishing

Take a canoe or sit at the end of the dock and try your luck. Oxtongue Lake offers great fishing. Hook a smallmouth Bass, Pike or Lake Trout. Please bring your own fishing rod and license.

Summer Programming

During July and August, we offer fun activities for kids of all ages to enjoy. Each week, children can get creative with a craft activity, and everyone looks forward to our famous ice cream social, a favorite gathering for all guests of The Pines!

Algonquin Park

Located just 10km from the West Gate entrance, our property offers easy access to the natural beauty of Algonquin Park. Whether you’re looking to explore the park’s extensive network of trails, enjoy a serene paddle on one of its pristine lakes, or spot wildlife in its protected wilderness, we provide the perfect base for your outdoor adventure. With Algonquin Park just minutes away, you can immerse yourself in nature while enjoying the comfort and convenience of being close to all that this iconic Canadian destination has to offer. Be sure to check out the Algonquin Visitors’ Centre, the Logging Museum and the Algonquin Art Centre.

Ragged Falls

Just a short drive or paddle from The Pines, Ragged Falls offers incredible photography opportunities with its dramatic waterfalls and stunning views. You can either hike in for a scenic experience or, for the adventurous, paddle directly to the base of the falls from The Pines. Whether you’re exploring the trail or capturing the beauty from your canoe, it’s a must-visit for nature lovers.

Limberlost Forest

Limberlost Forest and Wildlife Reserve is a privately managed, year-round wilderness haven located near Huntsville, Ontario. Spanning over 10,000 acres of mixed forest with 20 private lakes, Limberlost offers a variety of free hiking and biking trails. For unique Canadian handcrafted pieces, be sure to stop by the Oxtongue Craft Cabin. Explore local treasures at the Trading Post, pick up fresh produce at the Dwight Market, or satisfy your sweet tooth with delicious treats from Henrietta’s Pine Bakery.

Town of Dorset

A short drive to the Dorset Look-Out Tower or an old time general store, Robinson’s General Store and the Dorset Heritage Museum.

Stop in at Pizza on Earth for a wood-fired gourmet pizza or check out Love Pottery for your clay pot needs.

The Town of Huntsville

July brings the Huntsville Festival of the Arts, Muskoka Heritage Place – a trip back in time for the whole family and The Algonquin Theatre – a new entertainment centre for the entire area. Explore the downtown for all your shopping needs.

Our friends down the road at  Algonquin Outfitters can take you for a day outing, or rent your own canoes, kayaks or mountain bikes for your adventures in Algonquin.

For those who love adventure, Tree Top Trekking in Huntsville is a must-do! Experience the thrill of ziplining through the treetops, or challenge yourself on the obstacle courses that vary in difficulty. Fun for all ages and skill levels.

The Dwight Library Program
If you’re looking for a quiet afternoon or a family-friendly activity, check out the library programs offered at the Dwight Library. They offer a range of educational and fun activities for kids and adults alike, including storytimes, craft sessions, and community events.

Peca Farm
Experience farm life at Peca Farm, located near Huntsville. It’s a wonderful stop for families, where you can enjoy farm tours, pet the animals, and learn about sustainable farming practices. Check out their fresh produce and homemade products for a taste of local flavors.

Area Dining

There is only one place we can recommend, that’s because we own it! Bartlett Lodge in Algonquin Park is the area’s finest dining. Take a boat ride to dinner and join us at the Lodge as so many guests of The Pines have done for years. Reservations are necessary at (705) 633-5543.
